Jakob's Fight for Sight

Jakob's Story.....

Hi my name is Jakob, I arrived on December 30th 2007, a healthy baby at 8lbs 7oz!!! I went home the next day to start my new life with my Mom, Dad, and big sister Reagan. When I was 6 weeks old my Mom noticed that I didn't seem to look at her or any of my toys so she took me to the doctor. The doctor sent us to a Opthamologist who diagnosed me with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. My Mom and Dad were so scared because they didn't know what that meant for me. The one thing they did understand was that I couldn't see, even though I had big beautiful blue eyes.

My Mom and Dad were so sad. Daddy worries that I won't be able to play baseball with him, or help in the shop building stuff. Mommy worries that I'll never be able to see her face. The doctor's say that there is no treatment for me, but Mommy didn't want to accept that. She researched for months, spoke to doctor's and other Mom's and she finally found a glimmer of hope. It turns out that there are other babies, just like me, who got treatment. They had to go far away from home for a while, they had to go all the way to China. It cost a lot of money but now those babies can see. I want to see too. My vision won't be perfect but maybe I could look at my mommy's face and be able to catch a ball one day.

Even though I can't see, I'm really lucky. My Mommy and Daddy love me so much that they are going to do everything possible to give me the best opportunities in life. That means they are going to work really hard to raise the money we need to send me to China for treatment. We have love, support, hope, and prayers, all we need is a little help to get us there.

Thank you for reading my story. I look forward to seeing you.....

Love Jakob
